PostSubject: Will the next GTi be a real GTi???   Tue Apr 20, 2010 7:28 am

Quote :
Reports of the death of the Peugeot GTI have been greatly exaggerated, it seems, with news that the hot Pug hatch could return with the 207 replacement.

According to the news hounds at Autocar, the new Peugeot hot hatch (expected to be dubbed the 208 GTI) will be built primarily for the British and German markets, as these are the only markets that take hot hatches in significant numbers, although the 208 GTI will be on price lists in France, too.

The 208 GTI will likely be powered by the 197bhp 1.6-litre turbo four-pot that has just made its debut in the Peugeot RCZ, and which features variable valve and cam timing and a twin-scroll turbo.

208 will take design cues from SR1 conceptThe planned return to 'proper' GTIs, says Autocar, comes from Peugeot's ambition to focus on its traditional strengths - in other words to regain its old reputation as a maker of fine-handling cars. Futures Peugeots will be all about "precision, allure, style, driver control and excellence", says Jean-Marc Gales, boss of the Peugeot and Citroen brands.

The new 208 will arrive in 2012, and should share its design language with the recent SR1 roadster concept.

Frankly... I'll believe it when i see it!

Tbh honest after the 106 gti peugeot pretty much flopped.

The 206 gti is horrid and then they decided to make the 180 with oversize wheels and an engine which was ment to produce 180bhp but apparently only produces around the 170 mark.

Bring back a newer updated version of the 106 and please god dont let it look like th 107 tripe

they need to crack the 200bhp barrier to even be considered if i'm honest but I personally think pug lost there way years ago and it will take years to find there way back again.

Ive had two 306 gti6s and two 205 gtis and a 206 gti 180. Since the 205 106 and 306 gtis peugeot have just gone down the pan when it comes to the hot hatch and its a shame because the above were such good cars bar the 206 gti 180 .When you look at what the other companys have got on the market ie Civic type r, new fiesta st due out soon, clio 197, mini cooper s, bmw 135i, corsa vxr, the list gos on if you ask me to little to late peugeot Crying or Very sad
Stick to the classics if you ask me.

as already said, will have to be one hell of a car to beat the Renaultsports. That said Honda are supposedly killing off Type R, so maybe there's a gap in the market

Personal opinion modern cars are too safe and certainly feel it. You know if you crash a 205/106 at 40-50mph you’re fucked. That makes the cars more exciting to drive.

It's not so much power their current cars lack, the 106 GTi was hardly a powerful car. Yet was one of the most popular.
