| Jon got his stickers through and they look pretty mint, so I'll take a look and put my order in Yeah, a rollcage is a definate if I get on well on Saturday and get the track bug (what are the chances of not getting the bug?). For the past few years, I've been living in denial that cars depreciate. But now I've had to accept this so welding tubes to the car is on the cards  I'll run the car in to the ground and break it and make more money anyway. After speaking to some other guys, my to-do list for the next few months is: 1. Thicker rear ARB (24mm from a 106 Rallye). 2. 266mm brake setup (from a 206 1.4) OR Ferodo pads and discs. 3. GrpN engine mounts. Then another track session and see how it compares to now. On another note, my girlfriend got my a Rally experience day for my birthday the other day. Choice of Evo 8 or Impreza for 6 laps (got to be the Evo!) and then on to a purpose built 106 rally car with an instructor for some lessons on gravel and finally, ride shot gun with the instructor to see how it should be done. |

1. 266mm brakes (from a 206 and need to be >2001 because of offset differences, apparently). 2. Polyrace rear beam, front ARB and wishbone bushes. 3. GrpN engine mounts (upper+lower). 4. 24mm rear ARB.

| Thanks Norledge. I was a bit suicidal but I just couldn't help it. Best feeling ever. Next time I'll be more controlled. That session was faaarrrr too short. Need a few more revs too. Struggled to get past that Saab and hit the limiter in 3rd.

| It is pretty quick with all the mods you got now. Quiksilver engine is light too being an alloy block IIRC.

Good choice, can also use Most of the Pug 306/ Partner or Citroen Berlingo caliper's which also run 266mm discs. IMO i'd also invest in a set of Citroen C5 wind deflectors which bolt onto the inside of the Caliper.

| Back from holiday! Today I decided that I should carry a fire extinguisher, "just in case" (Combe Summer Action Day '09 - Saab - "it'll t-cut out!"). I did look in Halfrauds but I was less than impressed. So Google to the rescue with "vehicle fire extinguishers, chichester" and I found a company 10 minutes down the road called Fire Extinguisher Valve Co (FEV). Check out their website here: www.f-e-v.co.uk They currently supply the majority of the F1 teams with fire systems, as well as a few WRC teams. I love finding small UK companies like this  Had a good chat with them and they went off and got some of the units they made for various F1 cars. It was very impressive. I got a 1.75 litre foam extinguisher, with bracket and stainless steel safety clips for £34 (cash). Which was a real bargain. Got a massive length of ali box section offcut from a local metal fabrication company for £3. Mounted the extinguisher bracket to it with some spacers to get the stainless steel clips under:  Holes drilled to fit on to the old rear seat mounts (saves having to drill holes):  Trial fit:  Not quite finished. Need to drill some large holes opposite the mounting holes so I can get a deep socket in to do the nuts up. Then some black carpet to finish it off or spray it black to finish it off. | This was waiting for me when I got home this evening. 24mm rear ARB, y0!  May have a crack at that over the weekend. Doesn't look too hard to do at all, as long as the current one isn't seized to buggery. | Decided to attack the rear ARB this morning. And it was easy peasy! M12 bolt screwed in to the end plate which popped the ARB out the other end nice and easy:  Scrawny 19mm ARB next to the 24mm:  Wanged it in, hit both ends with a club hammer + block of wood to make sure the end plates were on tight. Job done  Went out for a quick drive and can't hear anything deathly. Hit the loud pedal on a roundabout and can feel the back end now. Also went and got the tracking checked. Passenger side was way out apparently but the drivers side was spot on. | woz - I only gave it some beans around one roundabout and it wiggled its backside, which it hasn't done before. And wiggled a bit under hard braking. It's nice to be able to feel what the back end is doing! Your 27mm ARB must be insane.

haha it does like to step out a little more than the previous beam but matt lowered mine for handling in mind to keep it balanced and planted in the corners which is has done. |

| As you know, failed MOT on a badgered rear beam. Thankfully the play was minimal so bought a repair kit (bearings and seals). Rear beam refurbed and now appears to be spot on.
Also discovered both rear drum cylinders were totally seized, hence the virutally zero effciency that I also failed on.
Whilst the arms were off, also dropped the rear height by -10mm. So the rear sits slightly lower than the front now (by around 5-10mm). Hopefully that will make the back end a bit more stable with the 24mm rear ARB. | Fecking piece of French turd...! So yeah, after an expensive MOT and shelling out 90 quid on a new lambda sensor... battery light is now flickering on/off. This afternoon I cleaned up all the eath points, cleaned battery terminals, alternator terminal etc. etc. but in the process, the plastic end of the dipstick snapped off. But it should be alreet... bit of plastic v's metal @ >=1000RPM. Hopefully it'll be stuck in all the crap at the bottom of the sump. Oil pump should be OK as there's a piece of mesh to stop anything large getting sucked up (I think...). I'm hoping it gets mashed up and ends up in the filter. In other news, BakerBM GrpN lower mount ordered and should be here soon. Looking out for a Vibra Technics ECU side mount too. | Deffo get the pads and discs.
Just be carful with that theory about the mesh should stop it as it could block the oil pickup instead. If it was me, and I have been there before as Norledge knows and mocked me about take the sump off get it out and while your in there clean the sump out. It's amazing how much doesn't come out when you change your oil. |

| Totally lost interest in the car recently. Plus work has been very busy. And the weather has been completely arse. Who doesn't lose interest over winter when you wake up and it's dark and go home from work and it's dark? Not much has changed... Grp N engine mounts fitted and stuck with the Powerflex lower mount. Probably washed it once to remove any extra weight. Still haven't done an oil change since the end of my dipstick fell in to the sump. Car still moves and chases BMWs around bends, so it's all good. Going to build myself up slowly in case I suddenly "can't be arsed" again, so: 1) Long overdue oil change. 2) Spark plug change. 3) Fix rear drums. 4) Polyrace ARB and wishbone bushes. | No real progress since last time. I've managed to find enough time to complete a service at last! I even went all girly and spent half of Saturday washing it and a few hours today polishing it. Oh and I oiled the locks and greased the hinges. So to even out all this cleaning business, I helped take apart a 440 Hemi engine  Yesterday I ordered some more parts that'll hopefully find their way on before Spring PCAD: Polyrace ARB bushes Polyrace front wishbone bushes New collars for my quickshift so I can adjust it (grub screws munged at the moment) OMP boss kit Edit: Also 2x ball joints as Jon is keeping his now. Just need a steering wheel. Probably go for 350mm dished "stamped" OMP Corsica "style" special  Will also get new ball joints whilst bushes go on. | Oh, mate, I'm actually going to use both ball joints so I won't be able to sell you one on the cheap.
Plans sound good, car allready feels solid and positive so polyurethane bushes are a good upgrade.
It's all about balance, still running the standard front ARB? Could upgrade it for GTi spec one.
What's the stance like?
I'm going for 22mm rear ARB for sure as I wouldn't like the feeling of the back end stepping out, although wishbone mounted ARB won't be as good either. |

| OK. I'll order 2x ball joints from First Line in that case  Yep, still standard front ARB. I'll see how the bushes go. The front end is braced top and bottom. And remember when I read somewhere else that poly bushes on the ARB can have a negative effect as the ARB can't move as freely. So I was in two minds about ARB bushes. They didn't break the bank so could just wang on a GTi/VTS ARB if I don't think it's working about. As for the stance... It's ~35mm down at the front and Ant probably lowered the rear by about 40mm ish, so that it was level. Then I had Kris lower it another 10mm when I had the beam rebuilt. | Not much has happened. I've got a bunch of bits that are going on Wednesday, in time for Combe:  Poly bushes, new ball joints, new pinch bolts. I've still not learnt and bought an OMP boss kit for my OMP "stamped" steering wheel. Boss kit doesn't work if you want to keep the steering column plastics. All OMP stuff is a terrible fit!  I then went all limp wristed and spent 8 whole earth hours cleaning it the other weekend. The toothbrush came out and the clay bar kit. I then went over to my girlfriends where it got covered in dust and crap. | After Combe, I can say that the biggest improvement to date are the GrpN engine mounts and poly front wishbone bushes.
Compared to last September I had hardly any body roll from the pictures and video I've seen. I was able to push hard around the corners and didn't have any tyre squeal like I had previously.
Very happy with the handling.
My outer front ARB bushes aren't any good. The ID is 19mm and my front ARB is 18mm. Not worth putting them on. So I'm after a 22mm front ARB and will get some Flo-Flex bushes.
So very happy with the handling, few things to tweak and play with.

| Not really "progress" but everyone loves stickers. First time I ever went out on track, last Summer PCAD, Norledge didn't let me out until I had at least one B4T sticker. Only problem was, the rear wiper was in the way. So I got rid of it today. What a complete bitch it was to remove. I had to use a hacksaw in the end because after hours of trying and the use of loads of Plus Gas it wasn't budging. | Had to get outside and do something today. Once again, not progress but I have found since removing the 106owners stickers and applying these, there is a noticeable increase in performance and even handling. Fact.   Really should call Pug1Off tomorrow and start getting my power plans* underway. * There currently is no plan, apart from "Hi. I need power.
