May as well sell the Clio and buy a 106 if you want a decent hatch.

welcome over, you can pickup a valver lump, ecu and gearbox for Circa 150, fit it with a new water pump and cambelt and jobs a goodun.

Goes to show really, if you can pick it all up for that cheap they really aren't as special as the TU5, which are still holding value at 200+ for the block alone.

lol! Im not getting in to a cross manufacturer argument... but your wrong lol:P

the 1.8 F7p is a great base for a hot hatch, (better than a TU 8v all day long:P... but really its the 2.0 F7R that myself and Clio-girl have that hold their value at about the same.

id just like to add that i love the 106gti, great little car. I myself have a 106 as a daily a 106 1.1 independance (think thats the nice name for "poverty spec") but to be fair it never goes wrong...well other than the time i snapped both drive shaftes in the snow lol

the last time I checked they were both distinctly average

please don't ruin another thread with a 106 - Clio debate

you now have your own thread in which to wave willies. Knock yourselves out.

Didn't realise you were so far up on your high horse the clouds were impairing your vision of us mere minions at ground level.

It's a bit of light hearted banter, if you can't see it as then you must have had a humor transplant between owning the 106 and the Integra. I forgot they were the holy grail.

can i just say i drove my best mates 106 gti a few weeks ago and i loved it, i wont deny that but... the gearbox and driving position are both bloody awful. im only a tiny little thing but even my feet felt too big for the pedals lol. and again i love the old rallyes and i would most certainly have one in my fleet of cars for a toy!

the clio for me is a better choice of car its cheap and cheerful with the most comfy interior, parts are easy to get hold of, its nippy for town driving and the handling is excellent (for when i happen to get a bit 'spirited' on the Bristol ring roads late at night)

but i would have one of each if funds would allow Very Happy

one day you'll understand sarcasm.

Until then, light hearted banter is more than welcome. Just not on the same subject in every thread (of which by the way, this is an amalgamation of 3 i've cleaned today). You're welcome to take it up with me or any mod if you feel hard done by.

But why should I have an imput Razz Never driven an fast clio and I failed to move a GTI because I staled

you think this is heavy modding? we leave most things to run along, the whole point of the forum is to have a laid back nature...plus the way the mod tools work it's a pain in the arse to delete and move posts/threads. Laughing

look at it from cunny funt's (the O.P and new member) point of view, he joins the forum and is instantly bombarded with a 106 vs clio debate...that first impression can give a good/bad Idea of what the rest of the forum is like.

Lol!

Well this has been blown out of proportion a tad.... Fairly sure it was just a bit of banter between me and huw!

To be fair both the 106 and the Clio are better than anything with vtec!

Frankly it's not the car, it's how you drive it Wink

As for over modding, I have to agree with Alex, banter is fine, but keep it out of the newbie threads Razz

banter=great

spamming multiple threads=not

Depends on personal preference.

having owned a stripped out Williams and a track 16v. allong with 2 106 gti's 1 being 160bhp the other old granny owned, 2 106 rallyes and a couple of xsi's over the years i'd say i've got a bit of insight into both sides lol!!

Both have there merits thats for sure. I swapped an engine out on a clio 16v and what a bastard of job that was wher as on a 106 its kids play. Also little things pissed me off on the clio's such as prone to more rust than the pugs of similar age. Tuning Potential of the 106 is circa 160bhp before it gets expensive but the williams is around 180-190 before its solid lifters itbs etc.

Both handle superb with minimal work, i guess i've had my fingers burnt worse on the clio from so i'm a Peugeot man at heart!!

On track at the weekend i dealt with both a track clio cup and a clio cup 1990 race one straight line both were near on identical to the saxo with circa 130bhp.

My bad experiences wouldnt stop me getting a 172/182 at all as with bodies 200-220 imo is ideal for a 900kg track car to more than deal with most on track with a decent driver at the wheel and realisticly still be cheap fun.

thats my take anyways

Crowds
