But I think I've found my next set of wheels, maybe even before Llandow.

Just not 100% sure if I want to take the leap... need to find one to test drive, and do a bit of research, but christ it's a lot of car for the money!

Something like this.

Few people I know who have had them have enjoyed owning them. Not too much of a leap speed wise from a 106 though apart from probably being more reliable, rwd and jap unless you get one with some tasty mods. Nice intro to rwd though as very forgiving in standard form!

just be aware that stance like that doesn't come cheap and it will need to be adjusted every time you take it on track if you don't want to be through to canvas on the inside edge

This is my thinking - I've heard that they are incredibly fun little cars, and it's an intro to rwd. Plus if I get bored, there's so many options engine wise!
Only slight concern is how slow the 2 were at Llandow really... Didn't impress me!

Yeah I'm aware of this - if it ever got to the stage where I could get it looking like that I'd be looking at less extreme wheels for track, and would see how it could be adjusted. I just wanted to post some epic ones Razz

Laughing, its not just the wheels for that kind of camber at those heights though mate, there's a whole load of things you need to get to there

have a looky on here

http://stanceworks.com/forums/

we were looking at getting an mx5 as a weekend toy/track car in auto so K could drive it, they are awesome value for money. I also had great fun pushing one of the ones that came with us around Llandow - driven well they're as quick as your talent will let you be

Yeah I'm aware of that too mate - hense why I said about looking into adjusting it, I haven't done a huge amount of research on them yet so I'm not 100% on what suspension set up the mx uses, I do know that there are camber shims/adjustable top mounts etc involved too though.

For now though it'd just be a bit of a toy, nothing too extreme, just tidy Smile

MX's are one of the 5 left on the Meatsword list, true they aren't much quicker than your GTi, but the RWD makes up for it.

Dooo it, even with the lack(i use this term loosly) of power, one of the guys at llandow was still having a laugh by sliding it round each corner. Very good cars to drive, really is let down by the amount of power though

Seriously though, I have got love for them. Shame you can't have the handling and the stance together, think I'd need one of each style Laughing

Can you not get 200bhp from the 1.8 with a 2K turbo conversion? That's the price of boddies for the GTi!

Apparently the standard injectors are only any good up to the 170bhp tops. To get above that they recommend 550cc injectors.

Not a bad way to start out mate, same as any car get a good base and the rest will come in time!!

Well, turns out I might not need talking out of it...

Went to test drive one today, it was a 1.6 MK1, had a front strutbrace, roll bars and stuff, original BBS wheels... and I've been left feeling fairly unimpressed.

Willing to give a 1.8 a go, but this wasn't just slow... it felt it. And that's a lot worse IMO.
Also felt like the rear end was never going to come into play, admittedly I couldnt give it the full beans to really try as the dealer had to come with me, but I went around some fairly slippy roundabouts on some skinny little wheels and it just felt boring!

Unless I get to try a 1.8 or even one with some modifications, it's going to feel just a bit too life-less for me I'm afraid.

Time to save for that S14...

Well... had a go in a MK2 1.8 today - much better! Felt a lot nicer through corners, and pulled a bit better, even got the back out a bit - doesn't pull anywhere near as hard as my GTi still, but it's still fairly nippy, with obviously a shitload of potential...

Very hard decision tbh, I might stick some G.I threads up for the GTi and see how much interest it gets...

1.8 is definitely the one to get! Don't forget your gti will be as near it's limit with power without serious money whereas like you said an mx5 would be a good starting base! Do it!

Looks ok, worth a look I reckon, would just need a hardtop for it then!! Front seats aren't an issue as I'm sure you'd put buckets in, but would want to make sure he had the rust cut out and not just sanded and filled or it will be back!
