You know what I think. Will all depend on what I said earlier to you:

depends on how much money you got when you sell the Pug. If you don't have a lot then will prob be a FWD probably without a turbo (Honda probably the best for FWD whether it's a Lude or Teggy), if you feel a little more flush prob a turbo RWD car (prob best are MR2 and 200SX for pricing and parts)!

lmao

Just some info ive come across.

From reading on the mr2 forums from people who have owned the GT4 & scoobys/evos and other 4wd cars they often say they feel much "safer" to drive quickly over the MR2 due to the 4wd systems. Which makes sence. Although this leads to comments of the 4wd cars being boring to drive over the rwd drive stuff.

Just something to keep in mind.

No dought the mr2, particually the turbo is not an easy to drive fast but personally l love the on edge feel of the car its makes it exciting to drive. Also the way you have to be smooth with the car to get the most out of it. Both on corner entry and feeding the power in mid corner to get a fast exit. If your not smooth with the car you wont get anywhere near the limit of what the cars capable of. And if your not smooth at the limit you will probably crash.

But obviously that "on edge feel" wouldnt be to everyone taste.

Also for that reason a GT4 might be better suited to the welsh roads. Which gets my vote out of the 4wd stuff.

Although tbh mate you want rwd, you cant beat adding that bit of power at the wrong time making the back end step out.

NOT the gt4 as they are a complete and utter B1TCH to do a clutch on! It takes forever getting the box off and on for the simple reason toyota didnt design the shape of the gearbox... they wedged a diff on the end and that'll do sort of thing!

Rwd turbo Jap cars are a different league to teggy's, completely different drives and so much more tuneable for power.

Personally I wouldn't go rx7 due to many owners having a rebuild every 35-40k and that ain't particularly cheap.

I would think of 200sx for rwd turbo for definate. Very tuneable although not massively quick in stock form. Relatively cheap to get it around the 280 mark with boost, intercooler, exhaust, fuel pump and remap! S13 is cheaper than the S14 generally but prefer the 14's shape!

I'd go RX7, dispite their rebuild requirements and silly engines Razz

BUT they are soooooo small inside! I litterly cannot fit in one with the centre console!

200sx would be ideal... One of the Techies her has one running just over 300bhp.... lightning quick and if set up correctly they handle well too Smile

I would be put off the RX because of the potential rebuild costs involved as well.
They do seem more expensive to tune generally. They're also not the cheapest to run both petrol & oil wise. Even the newer RX8's munch oil. If you do your research and you're comfortable with what you're buying, its less of a deal. For me, potential hassle and alternatives available mean it drops down the list. You have to *want* an RX7 to own one.

200sx......never seen a "good" standard one. prepare to spend money. lots of money. to get it to a standard. if you're used to fwd french, chances are you're going to spend a lot of time and money getting it to where you feel happy with it, and you may not like it after all that.

And I don't think its fair to compare a teg to something rwd, they are totally different types of car. as the man once said, power is nothing without control and bhp per tonne, the teg is perfectly balanced - that's the point of it, it is what it is. you don't need to mod a teg to get the best from it.

if it were me, I'd actually be thinking about some of the less popular shape Imprezas. might be ugly but there are some real performance bargains to be had from the bug eyes/blob eyes

Impreza's are cheap, and tunable, but it's never be as much fun as a FWD or RWD imo.

you wont get a good NSX for less than 20k, totally different kind of car again

I think you might have missed an obvious candidate for big power, RWD jap action thinking about it.....

I used to really like the 300ZX until looking around them at the jap show. For some reason they did nothing for me in the flesh. I was dissapointed as the 300ZX and supra would be my cars of choice if l couldnt have the mr2.

Don't get me wrong I'm not putting the teggy down, I love them and pretty much all Honda's! Integra's are some of the best handling FWD cars for the money in my opinion but I was merely stating what you replied with, they are a different league to RWD turbo cars as completely different cars and handling!

I said the same kind of thing to James before, money is the key. 1k won't buy you a good base RWD turbo jap car, whereas 2-3k will! If he wanted FWD and had the cash I'd say an integra...if he didn't have the money then a Lude. If he wanted turbo as said loads of stuff out there but will prob cost at least 2k up!

Only replying as have a lot of experience of different jap cars, my mates have had skylines, 200sx's, MR2's, Celica GT4's, Supra's, Scooby's, Evo's, Ludes, Integra's, Accord's, S2000's, NSX's, Glanza's, Corolla's, RX7's, RX8's, different Lexus', GTO's, Pulsar's and the list goes on, and I've been out in or driven all of them so kind of know what is what around the jap cars!

If I was buying another Integra, I think I would really want to be spending more. Somewhere around 6 to 7k for a really good one.

Last one for me, another one over-looked and under-rated

Aftermarket turbo set up. Quite popular with the MX5 owners as they soon want more power through the rear wheels. My friend who had the MX5 1.8 put out less BHP than my 1.8 escort on the dyno few years back, hence why they like turbo's!! Wink

EDIT: after the post above...changed my mind as love the 300ZX as well, so my new advice is just buy a Jap car because they're all cool!! Cool

I bought the car off my boss's wife, which they had owned for the last 7 years, which had a well maintained history hence buying it.

I intended to use the car for track days and as a second vehicle, however I need to free up some money.

I have just serviced the car 300 miles ago and this includes a Blue Print Oil Filter, Blueprint Fuel Filter, NGK Irridium IK7 Spark Plugs and Silkolene Pro-S 10w-50 Fully synthetic Oil.

The car drives very well with no VVT rattle, starts smooth and quiet on Idle.

Clutch engagement is good and no crunching or whines from gearbox.

The car boosts well pulling hard through the rev range with no hesitation.

Car does not burn oil and no smoke from the turbo.

Currently making circa 260BHP

That belongs to a lad I know in South Wales who is into the Prelude scene. Sold his Prelude for a DC2 and then the 200sx and now going back to Prelude's, think it's now his 14th Lude!! Very Happy

He always looks after his car and spends a fortune on them as he is well into the track days and drag strips!

the brakes, diff and decat are worth having. wouldn't bother with the coilies or the wheels myself. 3k for what looks to be a very clean one isn't bad
