PostSubject: Tyre Recommendations   Wed Jun 02, 2010 12:48 am

I need some new tyres for Llandow.

Dont like my odd budget ones from combe that came with the car.

Size is 195/45/R16 I think.

Tried to find some KU31's but cheapest is 59 a corner which atm is too much.
Camskill show them but wont have them in stock for 3-4 weeks so pushing it for Llandow.

Looking for some good tyres around the 40-50 mark.

Thanks

You're on 16's? Thats baddd m'kay Razz

Thinky they should be 195 40 R16 on a Spaxo though?

I'll reccomend Toyo Proxies till i die, but if you're looking to spend less it has to be Parada Spec 2's, but i don't think they come in 16 inch

I'll have to investigate.

They are the wheels that came with it, going to switch to 15's I think though. When I can

T1-R's are roughly in your budget, I have used them at Brands, Mallory, Combe and Rockingham and they performed well at each (on the 106 and the Clio)

The 106 currently has the KU31's on because they were cheaper, otherwise I'd still be using T1-R's.

are you going to be fitting yourself or do you know someone that will do it for you?

I know someone who can fit them.

Although after stu's comment that 16's are bad I have been looking for some 15" wheels.

So if you come across any for about 150 max with decent tyres then post a link Smile

reduced weight, cheaper tyres for starters.

I dont think you'll experience a massive difference going from 16" to 15" like you would going 16" to 14", but it DOES make a difference.

try blackcircles. I got my KU31's fitted for 45 a corner at my house.

Less weight to 15" wheels maybe? They're meant to handle better, can't remember why.
You get a much better choice is tyres in 195/45/15 Smile

And from going out in Woz's car I would say Kumho KU31's are very good tyres. Loads of us are using them but Woz can really drive and on the corners nothing was quicker tbh, so the tyres are well up to it! They last quite a while too.

LMAO "LIIIFFFFTT OFFF" "Yeah that was a little tooo far" Laughing

KU31 all day long for rallye steels because they look pimp aswell Laughing

once the KU31s have some heat into them they are awesome, just avoid standing water like it Will bite you gentlemens area off though.

on a 45 profile i'd of thought you'd have some scraping, but there's even less choice opting for a 40 profile tyre and it will cost you more.

cant see the need for 16's unless you have negative friction brakes. i'm on b8's with 50mm springs and thats 'tight' for clearance

Getting James tyres for Llandow, will look into smaller wheels later in the year.

They only scrub when on full lock with the 45 profile Masher. Otherwise they are fine.

PostSubject: Re: Tyre Recommendations   Fri Jun 04, 2010 9:19 pm

I prefer the KU-31's over the Toyo T1-R's.

When I had an ST170 Focus I put T1-R's on that and they didn't have the initial bite that the KU-31's had on my Golf before it, ok the Golfs where 225/40/18's and the ST was 215/45/17's, but the Golf had a better initial turn-in than the Focus (which cant be right for a mk4 1J chassis)

On the Bora I have fitted new KU-31's all round (205/55/16) and love them, much better than the old Pirelli P6000's it used to have.

I do agree that you need to get heat into them (KU-31) though, a problem I found when doing airfield days in the Golf.

Never had problems with standing water though, different story for the tyres that came with my Golf, they where made by Diamondback and where true ditch-finders, wheel-spin well into 3rd and could not take roundabouts in the wet at more than 15mph. Was very happy when I changed them for the KU-31's.

So, to sum up that essay, I like KU-31's

ive had

good year eagle f1 gsd 3 in 195/45-15 on corsa gsi and have recently been running them on my VTS

Good grip wet and dry and nice and predictable. Seem to last a long time too and have quite a stiff side wall.

Toyo tr1's in 195/45-15 on the vts

Good grip but quite soft. Did a track day at bedford and they blistered away

Vredstien ultratacs 205/45-17 on civic type r

Same as eagle f1's but cheaper maybe slightly softer side wall
